I was lying in bed last night when I got an idea (as usual, why do I *always* get ideas when i should be trying to go to sleep?)
Anyhoo, I reckon the natural progression of needles from beginner to experienced would go something like:
Straights (with one needle held under arm) - Circular - (possibly two circulars) - Magic loop - DPNs
I know this worked for me.
The straights let you get used to the whole knitting/purling/YO ideas with one needle held by your body leaving the dominant hand to get used to the motions without trying to hold a needle aswell.
The circular gets you used to holding both needles at once along with the weight of your knitting.
Two circulars would let you adapt to changing needles and working in the round
DPNs are the final step, work in the round with 4 or even 5 needles.
Thinking of DPNs I've a tad irked. I have finally gotten the hang of them, much to my delight, so I went out to get some as I'm test-knitting some mitts that would be easier on DPNs than magic loop. In the charity shops I can get them in sets of 5, my preferred number so I can have 2 for the front, 2 for the back and one to knit with. So why oh why do shops only sell them in sets of 4 now? My LYS even sells the super-long ones (12") but always in sets of 4 so I end up buying two sets.
Ah well, will put the ones I don't have but want on my RAK wish list and see if anyone is feeling generous.
In other (icky) news: I dislike pessaries, I woke up at 5.15 this morning to a feeling usually only felt once a month but this time it was pessary. ICK. I lost two hours of precious sleep time because my body decided that it had had this invader long enough, thank you.
Ah well, I might actually be free of infections now. The increased dose of my anti-depressants (I'm back up to 150mg once a day of the venlafaxine or venaflaxine, can never remember where the l goes) finally means I sleep. I still have issues getting to sleep but once there I generally can stay there.
Hubbie is actually making tea! No "can you come help?" Wow.
I have 18 rows left of the left mitten in my Totoro test-knit and then the thumb and I'm done. Then I can get on with the right Musica mitt for Klarinettegal. I decided to alternate these mitts as one chart set is easier to follow than the other and one needle set is larger so my hands don't get moody with me.
That's it for now. Later peeples.
OOOH, actually: please send Barry happy, calm vibes tomorrow. We're off to the vet to get a lump checked out and hopefully removed. It's just been sitting on his shoulder like a pea that's under the skin but I reckon that as you can move it and pinch the skin all round it it'll be a quick neat job. Hopefully not cancerous, last thing any of us need is for him to follow his Mum that closely. Not sure I can afford to get it tested either, last time I was quoted 30 quid for a test on top of £100 for the operation and that was with Lou. We shall see.
