Firstly, I'd like to point you all to a fascinating Knitty article on tops and sleeves: http://www.knitty.com/ISSUEfall04/FEATfall04TBP.html A darn good resource for if you want to try the whole top covering thing.
I've restarted crochet. I've been doing experiments and have now discovered the reason crocheting hurts is because the hooks are so thin so I've asked on the crafting with pain Rav group for ideas. I do like to crochet but I don't want to be limited to 10mm+ hooks.
Currently I have a little prem baby blanket that I can slip in my work coat pocket and a lap blanket that's been zzzing for half the year. It's pure acrylic and amazingly warming, I only found out because every time I turn it I get a chilly leg where the blanket isn't anymore.
Lidl have yarn as one of their specials at the mo. and I'm hoping they have some to complement mine as I've nearly run out and while it does just cover my lap I'd like to make it a bit bigger.
Knitting is going okay. FIL's hat is slowly beginning, nearly done the 'cuff'.
On Sunday I went to The Bear cafe in town and met some fellow knitters, we had a lovely chat, knit and snack. Alison, a lady who started coming to my crafters group on Tuesdays came and thoroughly enjoyed herself.
Thinking of Alison, turns out she's as dirty minded as me. This Tuesday we were all sitting knitting and chatting when one lady said "we were at it for 3 hours!" I was munching a cookie at the time and had to cough to clear the crumbs I almost inhaled, Alison heard me and we started giggling like kids and had tears rolling down our cheeks before we could stop. Later the same woman exclaimed "I can't hump" oh dear, more giggles. Yay, a fellow gutter mind to snigger with.
What the lady in question was actually commenting on was that she and a pal had been cleaing out the large church vestry that was FULL of junk and disorder. The other time is when they were talking about moving (aka humping and lumping) lots of christmas trees. So nothing rude was going on in the church other than two minds rolling in the gutter ;)
Hubbie has spent a bit of money on an early chrissie pressie for me. He's got me the altered version of Civilisation for the Nintendo DS to play now it's too dark to read in the morning before work. So I might get to play with that tonight depending on hubbie's opinion on whether he wants me to wait till crhistmas.
Right. I need to make myself comfy before my afternoon shift, later peeples.

One way to make small hooks easier to hold is to felt the handles. There is a great tutorial over at Grafton fibers - http://www.graftonfibers.com/feltedhookhandle.htm
I also find I dont grip my Turn of the Century wooded hooks as tightly - plus the longer hooks make them easier to use - http://www.turn-of-the-century.com/hooks.htm
Oooh, cool. Thank you :)
